Incredible dusty charcoal black leaves on dark burgundy/black stems. Large, velvety black, heart-shaped leaves lend a dramatic contrast to the pond. A very striking color sure to bring compliments. The giant purple-black petioles (stalks) rise to nearly 7'. At the end of each petiole sits a giant green heart-shaped leaf (to 3' long) with a shiny black cast. In late summer, the plant is home to wonderful yellow aroid flowers to 12" long. Sun to light shade. Hardy to zone 7b.

A small growing species often reaching 2'-3', with stalks that are bluish-black and medium-green leaves beautifully marked with irregular areas of pale chartreuse, gray beneath with translucent colored blotches. For those collectors of the truly amazing, you must try this new striped Taro (elephant ear). The giant green leaves are each blotched with large lighter green random sectors. The highlight, however, is the tall 5' stems, which are vividly striped with cream and green vertical bands. Planting depth to 6". Hardy to zone 7b. Full sun to partial sun.

Bold dramatic foliage and heavy rich purple flowers atop narrow spikes several feet above the 6' foliage that sway gracefully in the breeze. Leaves appear to be "dusted" or "powdery", and can be up to 10" wide. Unusual purple flowers are held high above the leaves in mid-summer, with purple seeds remaining until Fall. This large addition to the water garden requires space and a large planting container. Bold dramatic foliage and heavy rich purple flowers atop narrow spikes several feet above the 6' foliage that sway gracefully in the breeze. The red stems stand out below the powdery, mint green leaves. The flowers are a treat, held well above the large leaves. Flowers July, August, September. Planting depth to 12". Hardy to zone 7. Deck your pond with bright green umbrellas to accent the beauty of your other aquatics by planting this hardy sedge. Stately leaf sheathed stems rise two to four feet high to display ribbon like masses of four to eight inch long leaves. In the summer small flowers the shade of the leaves appear in their midst. Soon the blooms turn caramel, contrasting nicely with the umbrella-shaped foliage. A Madagascar native, the Umbrella Palm likes marshy ground or shallow water and full sun. It also does well indoors planted in moist soil. Planting depth to 6". Hardy to zone 7. Full sun.
