Floating Plant List

These plants just float with their roots in the water. They do not have to be potted.

Anacharis is a great plant that helps naturally remove nitrate (fertilizer) from the water. It can be potted or floated freely. It is also a great plant for fish to lay their eggs in. Anacharis grows very will in aquariums and ponds and will survive in cold water. (6 stems- 6" long or longer) $4.00

This submerged plant has feathery green foliage, laced with traces of purple. One of the showier oxygenators, it also boasts tiny white flowers which float on the surface (10 stems- 6" long or longer) $4.00 Out of stock

Duckweed is a hardy floating plant. We also call this plant “Fish Candy” because the fish love to eat it.  One portion equals approximately 1/2 cup. $4.00

Attractive green and red floating fern. Tiny leaves are green in cool weather and shade and turn deep red in the fall or full sun. Works great in veggie filters at removing nitrate (fertilizer) from the water. Koi love to eat this plant. Aggressive if fish are not present. Hardy to zone 7. One portion equals approximately 1/2 cup. $4.00

A mixture of the tiny floating fern, Fairy Moss, and the small floating plant known as Duckweed. Fairy Moss and Duckweed are great in veggie filters for removing nitrates (fertilizer) that is left at the end of the biological cycle. Fairy Moss has tiny leaves are green in shade and deep red in sun. Duckweed is one of the smallest floating aquatic ferns with tiny tri-lobed green leaves. Both help provide coverage and shade to help starve out algae. Fish also love to nibble on both. $4.00

This floater has light green leaves with sponge-like undersides. Spreads rapidly, producing offsets. Floats on surface - no need to plant in soil. Roots are great for fish to spawn in. Full sun to part sun. Hardy to zone 7. $4.00 Out of Stock

This oxygenator is unique in that it does not root, floating under the surface of the water or at the pond bottom. It is an excellent plant not only for adding oxygen, but also for filtration and providing a spawning area for fish. (10 stems- 6" long or longer). $4.00

Parrot's Feather has feathery blue-green foliage with a velvety sheen that creeps across surface of pond. Its stems can grow from 20 to 60 inches long, and are divided into four to six vivid green segments. Parrot's Feather's lushly textured foliage helps provide shade for the pond and fish. It also provides a hiding place and spawning material for the pond inhabitants. Because of its capability of establishing itself in wet soil above the water, Parrot's Feather can be used in waterfall crevices, as well as along pond edges. Although it may be prone to frost damage, it winters well beneath the ice in frozen ponds. Hardy to zone 4. (5 rooted stems) (Not sold to some states) $4.00

A newer dwarf form, similar in habit to the well known green-stemmed parrot feather. Color contrast has been improved with this selection, as stems sport an exciting red blush which can intensify with exposure to full sun. Water depth from 0" to length of mature stems (up to 3 feet). Hardy to Zone 5. $8.00

This charming plant is a rapid grower. It features large, round penny shaped leaves that reach from 4" to 12" in height. A sturdier variety of Pennywort, this one stays fresh and crisp throughout the growing season. The delicate, inconspicuous white flowers are held on shorter stalks below the leaves. Hardy to zone 5. Full sun to part shade. $4.00

Fast spreading, celery-like growth habit. Variegated leaves are marked with white and pink. The color is best while weather is cool. Water cress is a water-loving plant. Water cress provides water gardeners with a fast growing, attractive plant that will grow when the weather is cold. This hardy perennial thrives in sun or shade at the edge of your pond. It is a green leafy plant that has tiny white flowers.  It blooms in March-November.  It looks great in waterfalls. The plant also thrives on high nutrient levels in the water making it great for veggie filters. It is also edible. $4.00
